Unicorns

I searched every lair precisely, but you weren't there.
Sometimes I would stare behind me.
Sometimes I would swear I was not alone and lost.
When I was alone and lost.
Chasing after unicorns we seem to only catch the horn,
squarely in the sternum.
Rarely is a diamond born so sad and so amazing.
You will not see how much you have.
So sad and so amazing.
You will not see how much you have to offer.

Let me lie here underneath the shade, undisturbed,
where we made promises too big to keep
and trampled rice beneath our feet.
I've only flowers left to bring, for my mother, for my father.
Hand in hand. She would kill us where we stand.
Bless the family, bless the land.
There's a photograph within my fist.
We embrace before the kiss.
My eyes sparkle. Yours are red.
Don't wait when there's too much at stake.
Don't wait. It's right in front of your face.

On devil wings, evening brings consolation.
For we will climb, intertwine, one last time
and then be destroyed.
The tightest noose. Rendezvous.
The beautiful, beautiful hues of summer
could never be altered, nor what was felt.
We will meet again in hell.
Unlucky lovers, we were expelled.
We will meet again in hell.
Reunited, our faces burned.

Dancing over unmarked graves.
Unleashed by hurricanes, comes the pouring rain,
spilling down our faces.
How do we find our way?
The minutes drip in this casket of a room.
I ask her if she woud tell the truth, afraid of what she'd say.
She said, "You needn't beware, I would follow you anywhere."
"because I need you here to feel even a little bit brave."
Now she sleeps with the lights on.
I can feel her shivering.
I can hear the blackness whispering, "Protect her."
Sticks and can stones can break my bones so words won't always hurt her.
